5 Daily Ways You Can Embody Herzing’s P.R.I.C.E. Model

At Herzing University, you have likely heard about, and been encouraged to follow, the P.R.I.C.E. Model. Representing some of Herzing’s core values, P.R.I.C.E. stands for Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Caring, and Engagement. It is a foundational philosophy enabling students to become the best version of themselves – both personally and professionally. Every year, the University awards the Herzing Cup to students who exemplify the P.R.I.C.E. model and act as role models for their classmates and incoming students. By following these core values, student success shines in the classroom, the community and as they enter the workforce — allowing the lessons learned at Herzing to transfer to future colleagues, employers, and the patients they care for.

Let’s dive into five ways that you can embody the P.R.I.C.E. Model in your everyday life:

1. Help Classmates

Earning your degree is a marathon and everybody runs it at their own pace. If you find yourself nailing the concepts for a chapter or lesson, but your peers are struggling, offer your time to sit down and share the information in a way that might help it stick. This gesture represents the type of team-first mentality you’ll need to have in the workplace and, who knows, they may pay it forward to someone else or pay it back to you in the future.

2. Ask Questions in Class

Some students avoid asking questions during class. If you’re shy, or just don’t tend to ask questions during a lecture, try stepping out of your comfort zone. By asking a question, you not only help foster a positive learning environment but also practice positive engagement in class. As a bonus, showing leadership and a fearless attitude by asking questions can give others the courage to speak up for themselves.

3. Treat Everyone with Respect

We are more likely to thrive knowing that those around us genuinely respect us. So, live by the golden rule and treat others how you would like to be treated. It can be as simple as holding the door open for another student, thanking a faculty member for their advice or taking the extra minute of your day to help lift someone else. Acts of respect, big or small, go farther than you can ever imagine and can inspire others to act as you do, with compassion and honor.

4. Show Pride in Your Work

Don’t forget to celebrate your educational milestones with pride throughout your journey. You’ve worked hard to get to where you want to be, so show up with pride and a sense of accomplishment. Your hard work and dedication reflect you, your upbringing and your community, so carry yourself with confidence — it will be a testament to your journey and inspire others to embrace their own paths.

5. Strive to Learn More

As a student embodying the P.R.I.C.E. Model, learning outside of the classroom or in clinical settings can help you expand your wealth of knowledge for the future. Whether it’s reading blogs or listening to podcasts from professionals in your field, or staying up to date on new research, success beyond the standard learning environment will help you become your best self and forge a desire for continuous improvement.

While there are many ways to embody what it means to be a student following the P.R.I.C.E. Model, there are things you can do each day to bring your best self into everything you do. From the classroom to the community, to your work life, and at home, these foundational values can be incredibly important to your growth and have the bonus of allowing others to see you as someone they can turn to and rely on. At Herzing, we encourage you to be professional, show respect, honor with integrity, be caring, and thoughtfully engage with others. It’s a small “P.R.I.C.E.” that pays off in a big way.
