5. Interdisciplinary Studies
- Degree level: Bachelor’s degree
An interdisciplinary studies degree allows students to combine two or more disciplines into a single bachelor’s degree curriculum. For example, a student focused on business leadership may want to take courses in psychology to better understand individual and team behaviors. A student interested in a career in health and human services may want to take business courses to better understand budgeting and operations.
Earning a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies is a great opportunity for you to expand your knowledge and prepare for the career you want. Herzing University's interdisciplinary studies program offers six areas of focus: business, criminal justice, health and human services, healthcare administration, network security, and psychology. You can create a customized program by combining any two of these areas.
6. Healthcare Administration
- Degree levels: Associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree
Healthcare administrators help ensure the smooth operation of a hospital, hospital system, or healthcare organization. Unlike doctors and nurses, healthcare administrators don’t work directly with patients; instead, they focus on day-to-day operations, organizational budgets, information technology, and staffing. Healthcare administrators also develop organizational policies to help providers serve patients efficiently and compassionately.
If you’re currently working in the healthcare industry, a healthcare administration degree at either the bachelor’s or master’s level can set you on a more business-focused career path.
Employers typically require a degree in health administration or a related area to work as a healthcare administrator. Undergraduate courses include topics such as healthcare operations, human resources, and marketing.
