Sherrece Jackson
Stories like Sherrece Jackson's highlight why Herzing has thrived for six decades. A single mother pursuing her Master's degree in Project Management, Sherrece found in Herzing the perfect blend of academic rigor and practical flexibility that would transform her professional life.
Building a Dynamic Career
Today, Sherrece embodies the modern professional, seamlessly managing multiple roles as a case manager, dance fitness instructor, CNA, project manager, and entrepreneur. Her journey from student to multi-faceted professional exemplifies how Herzing's approach to education – refined over 60 years – empowers students to pursue their full potential.
"Herzing has shaped me to be in management roles and educate others in my field with information to help the company grow," she reflects.
This transformation began during her studies and continues to evolve through her ongoing connection with the university community.
Creating Lasting Bonds
What sets Herzing apart, according to Sherrece, is its commitment to building lasting relationships.
"Herzing makes people feel like just because you have a degree with us, it doesn't stop there," she explains. "It is a family within a family. Other people that I speak with about their universities don't experience that. They don't create that feeling to continue to belong there or provide things to keep them involved with being a part of something great."
This sense of community came alive through various campus events – from hockey games to family barbecues – where students, staff, and faculty could connect beyond the classroom. These experiences, part of Herzing's long-standing tradition of community building, created memories and connections that continue to enrich Sherrece's professional network.
Paying It Forward
As an active alumna, Sherrece continues to engage with the Herzing community, embodying the university's six-decade commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth. Her advice to current students reflects this spirit:
"Take advantage of the events, get to know more people within Herzing, and share your experiences with others because you never know who you have helped or made aware of other opportunities they didn't know were there for them."
The communication from faculty, staff, and leadership has remained a constant source of support in Sherrece's journey.
“They continue to reach out and keep you involved for years to come."
