I had worked in the healthcare field for a bit already, and my mother was the one that inspired me to do so as a Certified Nurse Assistant. When she passed, I decided to continue my education for myself and her honor.
When I made this choice, I was studying at a local community college. Herzing’s Admissions Team made transferring easy, and I’m happy to say their teachers were just as helpful.
I felt connected to the teachers online, as they gave a lot of attention to each individual student. They were so helpful with answering questions, and I truly felt supported by them, especially since I faced some significant challenges along the way.
The first challenge I faced was the fact that I started my studies right as the COVID-19 pandemic began. That made finding a clinical site rather difficult due to the issues the virus caused. Things continued to get harder, as I moved to a new city, became homeless, lost my current job, my car, and to top it all off, my dad’s health began to fail.
Unfortunately, these challenges caused me to withdraw from the program. Honestly, I just wanted to give up and figured I wasn’t able to do it. Thankfully, once I figured out how to overcome a lot of personal issues and the issues around the pandemic became “normal,” I decided to try again.
After all of that, I am proud to say that I did it and finally finished! I proved to myself during this crazy journey that I can do anything, and so can you.
If you ever find yourself in a discouraging situation and want to give up, remember the reason WHY you started. I know you can achieve your dreams!
