When I decided to advance my healthcare career, I already had six years of experience in private care as a CNA focusing on Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. While I enjoyed my work, I believed that obtaining a Medical Assisting degree could open up new opportunities for me. After researching various schools, I found that Herzing University offered a great program that could help me reach my goals.
I jumped right in, and I’m so glad I did – the experience was awesome!
I had started school pregnant, so I needed some extra assistance, especially when it was time to have my child. The instructors at Herzing were so helpful and understanding during my time here – they had my best interests in mind.
If I had to choose a part of the program that was most important, I would say my clinicals and externships. The hands-on experience proved invaluable to developing key skills for my career. They were difficult, but so helpful!
I faced self-doubt during my studies, but I kept telling myself, "I can do this!" Whenever that doubt surfaced, I just repeated this mantra over and over. Hard work, dedication and support from Herzing’s faculty and staff were key to keeping me on track, and before I knew it, I was done!
As a graduate, I want to work in a hospital setting. Thankfully, my externship site offered me a job already – I’m getting started on my dream career right away! Here’s to a new me!
