When I first learned about Herzing University, I had already been working as a certified nurse’s assistant (CNA) for eight years. I loved the job, but I felt that I had potential to become something more. My co-workers encouraged me to become a registered nurse and told me about Herzing’s BSN program. I knew that nursing was the right career for me, so I enrolled and was able to start right away!
Completing the program was difficult but very rewarding. The small classroom sizes allowed me to develop close relationships with my professors, especially Michelle Metzger and Nancy Ahrens, who were very supportive and truly made an effort to get to know me. They went above and beyond by making themselves available to each student to ensure our success in the program and on the NCLEX (state board exam).
I also had the opportunity to complete my clinical work at a summer camp for children who’ve lived through traumatic experiences. This was a truly life-changing experience for me and further confirmed that I really loved working with people and being a positive influence in their lives.
My hard work paid off, and I graduated at the top of my class in just two years. I even spoke at my pinning ceremony and student graduation. My experience at Herzing helped me become a stronger person and gave me all the tools I needed to be successful. In addition to being an RN at Columbia St. Mary’s, I also volunteer as the head nurse for Royal Family Kids Camp through Poplar Creek Church in New Berlin, Wisconsin!
