Honestly, my inspiration to enroll at Herzing came after I graduated with my BSN from another school. At the time, I was doing a fast-track BSN-MSN program and knew that I wanted to become an MSN. Unfortunately, I was told that the school I was attending didn’t accept MSN students from Louisiana.
Thanks to a friend that referred me to Herzing, I was able to transition and transfer my credits easily. Before I knew it, I was getting to work on my studies! Herzing’s program had a reasonable timeframe and the perfect start date for me. I didn’t even have to take a break!
I found all courses helpful during my studies at Herzing. Each of my preceptors did their own thing and provided insight on how they approached situations in their own way. Getting diverse viewpoints helped me figure out my own style of care.
I wish I could say that I only had one challenge as a student, but that wasn’t the case. During my studies, I was in physical therapy for back issues, had no money, no job, took care of a household with children, and on top of all of that I had to attend clinicals and take tests! If that wasn’t enough, my mom became critically ill during this time too.
It certainly was a lot to handle, but they were overcome by faith, prayer and support from Herzing staff/friends. I truly believe that you should never give up on your dreams when things get tough! I’m not saying it was easy, but I can say that it was worth it!
Currently, I’m looking searching for jobs and considering returning for my Post-Master’s in Mental Health. I can’t wait to see what the future holds – I may even write a book!
