While I had already worked in the healthcare field for a while, I wanted to transition away from direct patient contact. That’s what led me to Health Information Management – it fits all my needs while still being an interesting career choice.
Herzing’s online courses were such a blessing! I was able to complete them from the comfort of my own home, allowing me to balance work and family. It was a great experience to study interesting courses like laws and ethics without sacrificing my personal life.
Not everything was smooth sailing, though. During my studies, I was laid off from my job at a hospital and found myself struggling financially for a while. I went from one job to balancing multiple temporary jobs, all while studying. Not only that, but the pandemic hit during this time, and I lost one of my family members. Needless to say, this was challenging.
Despite this, I looked to my husband and daughter as reasons to keep going and push forward. I wanted to be better and do better for them, and I knew I would be able to if I just kept moving forward.
Now that I’m a grad, I’m excited about all the opportunities this degree has opened for me. I can work as a healthcare data analyst, records release specialist, become an HIM director, and more. I had no idea this degree offered so many other opportunities – it was so worth it!
I’m currently applying for positions and want to continue my education by earning my master’s in healthcare. Data analytics seems like a great area I could improve in with more education.
Anything is possible; you just have to do the work and not take any shortcuts in this program. Good luck to all future students!
