When I first learned about Herzing University, I was working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. I wanted to earn my BSN to advance my career, but the school I was at required me to repeat classes that I had already taken earlier in my college career. I was about to just give up on school because it was beginning to look like I was never going to achieve my BSN. I was feeling hopeless, but then I found Herzing University.
Herzing gave me credit for classes that I had taken elsewhere with no problem. They made it possible for me to start working toward my BSN right away by giving me credit for experience I had gained as an LPN. Everyone at the campus was helpful and I never felt like I didn't belong there. The staff went out of their way to help me succeed.
By having classes meet on one or two days a week, I was able to continue working 40 hours a week. I also liked taking some of my classes online because I could access them at work or home and I didn't have to go to campus. My favorite classes were mental health, OB, medical surgical and professional nursing. My instructors owned it when it came to lecture – they knew their stuff.
Herzing was great from the beginning, and the “I’m Possible” message became a very powerful motivator for me. At Herzing, I saw all kinds of people from different backgrounds making their dreams "possible" and it made me want to do the same.
