I attended a college fair at work, and the representatives from Herzing University were the most helpful in providing me with information about earning my bachelor’s degree. At first, I was unsure if I wanted to go into technology security or management, but I talked with student services and they were immensely helpful in determining what the right degree was for me. I feel I made the right decision going into technology management.
My husband went into cardiac arrest the day before I was to start my first class at Herzing. I had to take time off to care for him, but Herzing’s staff members worked with me to start my courses anyway. Despite the hurdle, I was able to catch up and earned a B+ in my course.
Then, in the fall of that same year, my father went to the hospital and we thought he was in his last days. I needed to take a semester off and Herzing worked with me to get all of my school affairs in order.
I feel that my course work has prepared me well for the next step in my career. All of my courses were more than applicable to my career path. I learned concepts that will help me be successful in future leadership positions as well as my current role as an IT engineer.
My advice for other students is don’t rush through it. Take on what you think you can handle in your life, whether that is one course per semester or more. Don't be in such a hurry to earn your degree that you get overwhelmed in the process. Herzing helped me take my courses at my own pace. I work 45+ hours a week and I have a family, so that only allowed me to take one course per eight-week semester.
I really appreciated the willingness of student services and the financial aid offices to help me achieve my goals. If I had a question, help from Herzing was simply a phone call or email away.
