I chose the Medical Assisting program due to my battle with incurable and inoperable brain cancer. Witnessing the dedication of the medical staff caring for me inspired my desire to provide the same level of help to others facing similar challenges.
During my search for schools, Herzing stood out to me because it offered the flexibility I needed to be a full-time mom and student. The school made my studies manageable by providing a well-organized timeline for coursework. They never overloaded me with tasks and ensured I had everything necessary to complete the work successfully.
It wasn’t all easy, though! One notable challenge I faced was a lot of paperwork that initially felt overwhelming. However, the dedicated staff at Herzing worked tirelessly to assure me that things would work out-- and they did!
One person who truly stood out to me was Sharion Thompson. During office hours, we not only discussed class-related matters but also talked about life in general. Her genuine interest in my well-being in life beyond academics was a breath of fresh air. Knowing that my teacher cared about my personal life and how I was doing made an impression on me I’ll never forget.
Beyond my teachers, my clinical experience in podiatry was eye-opening. Witnessing the behind-the-scenes work in a doctor's office is something truly incredible not many get to see. It deepened my appreciation for the hard work that they do!
Currently, I’m planning to work in oncology as I continue my fight against cancer. I aspire to provide patients with the same level of care I have received. I can’t wait to be able to help others!
The program can seem hard at times, but staying focused on my studies made it fly by. I encourage others to put in the effort, and stay the course, and soon enough, you'll become exactly who you set out to be!
