My husband started a business and I joined him as a business partner. It's just the two of us running the show, so we're extremely busy and putting in more than full-time work hours. I'm responsible for a lot of the accounting, records keeping, day-to-day business, etc.
As we began to get the business off the ground, we identified several areas within our record and account keeping that needed significant improvement. I decided to pursue higher education to teach myself the correct way to remedy the issues we discovered and began my hunt for a school.
I had searched different programs at other universities, but only Herzing offered the program that I had been attempting to find. Even more perfect, the classes that I felt were most beneficial to me were all within my specific program of interest.
From the start to graduation, everyone I encountered along the way was helpful and eager to set me up for success. I felt supported and encouraged by each individual that I worked with. The curriculum was helpful, and each professor had years of working experience in their fields to draw from. It didn't matter what I was learning, I knew I could get real-world assistance from each professor as I needed it.
The courses were broken up into eight-week segments, so it made things much more manageable. I took two courses at a time and was able to find a decent balance as a result. The program felt perfectly tailored to my needs: I learned the basics of accounting, taxation fundamentals and even the foundation of business law. These classes taught me invaluable lessons that I will be able to apply in my daily role as a partner in our company as it grows.
There were times that I struggled with deadlines or struggled to find time to study. However, each time I felt like I wanted to quit, I remembered why I was doing this and how I had already come so far. I took everything one week at a time, sometimes just one deadline at a time when it was particularly challenging. This helped me find success, and I'm proud to be at this point and graduating!
Now that I’m finishing school, I still plan to work with my husband. I'm passionate about what I do and excited to see how we will grow this company in the years ahead. I’m eager to see how much better the company will be after employing the tools I have learned through this program!
I worked hard and it paid off. Even with such a busy schedule, I was still able to maintain good grades! I even managed to get placed on the President’s List for the Spring semester due to maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I'm proud of all I have done and that I stuck with it. Herzing was a great experience for me and I don't regret a thing!
