I had always wanted to work in healthcare since I was a teenager in high school. Unfortunately, when I went to college back in the 90s, I had a hard time deciding between Medical Coding, Surgical Technology and Pharmacy Technology. I took a few courses in each and still couldn't decide, so I ended up taking a long break until I was recently presented with the opportunity to get a degree at Herzing. I had received calls from several colleges, but Olethia from admissions helped me to decide to attend Herzing.
After I took an Anatomy & Physiology course as an elective and did some shadowing at the hospital, I simply fell in love! Herzing ended up taking a lot of transfer credits from my previous education, which was extremely helpful and relieving. This allowed me to receive my degree quickly and I didn't have to repeat the courses that I was already familiar with. They were always looking out for my success as well as saving me money!
There came a time where I thought about taking a break to take care of personal things. Thankfully, my advisor and teachers were so understanding and pushed me to not give up. They gave me extra time and the help I needed to get through, and for that, I thank them so very much! Everything here at Herzing has contributed to my success. This includes all the courses I have taken, the resources made available to us, the weekly discussions in every class, professor interaction with students and career coach assistance!
After graduating, I plan to study for the certification exam. Herzing is a great school and it is an honor to graduate from here! The only advice I would give others who are pursuing a Medical Coding degree is to stay calm and confident. Breathe and don’t be scared to ask for help, the Herzing staff and other students are always more than willing to help. You can do it!
