I knew for a while that I wanted to be a doctor but didn’t know how to make that happen. A friend of mine that was already a doctor had suggested that I should get a nursing degree. Since I had kids, we both agreed that it would be an easier way to manage working in the field while being a parent. That’s when I found Herzing’s one-year LPN program and I knew it would be the perfect step for someone like me. I did some research and was fully committed.
Balancing work and school was difficult, but my instructors were flexible and consistently encouraging. Professors Mellenthein, Huggins and our lab instructors were amazing, as well as our clinicals. This program taught me to be patient, as nursing school is not the same as studying for other majors. You have to be willing to look for answers outside of the course materials! I found a group of like-minded people within my program that served as moral support and helped me when I needed it most. I made lifelong friends with them and I’m grateful for the experience!
I’ve received a job offer in Ohio, but it’s not quite right for my husband and me. I am in contact with the Northern Indiana VA Health Care System, and have my fingers crossed that I can get a job there!
