Ericka Watson-Polk
It was 2020, the Year of the Nurse, and the COVID-19 virus was in full effect. This moment was when I knew I could do more as a nurse.
I decided to attend the MSN-FNP program for greater fulfillment and autonomy, to provide better patient care, and to serve in a leadership role. Herzing helped me develop these skills and allowed me to complete my studies by laying out an easy-to-follow blueprint. I followed it with no deviations, and here I am today, completing the program as Herzing specified.
There were challenges, of course. The main one is juggling classwork with my daily life. My husband and daughter, James and Jordan, were so supportive during this time. I also had a lot of help from my friend Floyd Ann Freeman. I want to thank you all for your support and understanding – it didn’t go unnoticed!
On top of my support system, there were so many others at Herzing who were instrumental in keeping me enrolled and keeping my anxiety under control. I want to give them all their own shout-out right now by listing them here:
- Meghan Germana
- Sandy Huyser
- Eleanor Shipman
- Rick Herian
- Camille McKnight
- Jacqueline Rhodes
- Sam Taubenheim
- Rachel Sandora
- Deborah Blanson
- Jeanette Ward
- Charlene Romer
- G. Stan Reely
- Elicia Sutton
- Renee Herzing
Thank you all for assisting me in reaching my goals at Herzing. You all helped me more than you could ever know!
I’m so surprised at how many possibilities there are if you put in the effort. I’m currently planning on remaining at a local veteran’s healthcare system to care for America’s heroes, just in a greater capacity thanks to my degree.
Don’t give up and hang in there! Perseverance is the key to success!
