Elyse Jansen
I needed to enroll in a school that would provide the flexibility to complete my program while working, and that’s what brought me to Herzing.
During my onboarding process, I found that I was tremendously prepared and helped by all of Herzing’s staff. In particular, everyone in the Financial Aid Department was so kind and answered all of my questions. They were a great help in ensuring that I felt prepared and knowledgeable enough to start my education, and I want to thank them for that.
Once I started, I realized that working while completing my classwork was going to be a very big challenge to take on. However, I managed to overcome it by prioritizing school, practicing time management and working hard. Sometimes, that meant that I would study even after long hours at work. While it was certainly a challenge, it was totally worth it in the end!
I found myself surprised by how well I succeeded with my grades and overall GPA despite working in a non-traditional environment. I felt that I learned a lot, and my courses in Professional Development, Patient Privacy and Administrative Skills in the Healthcare Office were extremely valuable. These classes provided quite a lot of knowledge that prepared me for graduation and my future career.
By not having to complete my degree in a traditional brick-and-mortar setting, I was able to graduate in a reasonable amount of time. The course schedule is unique in having the 8-week rotations for each class, and that gave me the ability to complete my degree in half the time I would have needed elsewhere.
My advice for future students? Be sure to complete your assignments and discussions on time and to the best of your ability! Never leave an answer blank, and always try your hardest. It’s worth it!
