I chose my path because I love to help others. It's more than just a career to me, it's my passion, and Herzing made it possible to chase it!
When I decided to return to school, I was already working as a medical technician for a hospice. I had decided to attend Herzing because I wanted to do more with my career, but didn't want to miss out on time with my kids. I had just had my fourth son and wanted to be able to provide better for them.
All the classes I took were valuable in preparing me for my career, and I was able to get my associate's in a little over a year and a half. With Herzing, I was able to simultaneously be with my kids while continuing my education, and didn’t miss anything!
My parents, kids and best friends all supported me throughout the journey. They encouraged me and made it possible to have the determination I needed to get through school with all the life challenges I faced along the way.
COVID, sick kids, crazy working hours, supporting my family and losing my home/pets due to fire were all tremendous challenges I had to work through. I thought about giving up many times but kept telling myself that walking across that stage to graduate would be worth it. I was surprised at how much support I got from the school and the number of resources that were available to me. I knew that since this is what I wanted to do, nothing could stop me!
After graduation, I plan on working in ER-based urgent care while I go back to school to get my Bachelor’s degree. I want to eventually work in a trauma unit and help others through their hardest times. I’m excited to keep working toward my goals!
