When I learned about Herzing University, I was working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at a community hospital. Although I loved my job, I knew that I wanted to do more. Growing up, I spent a lot of time at hospitals and long-term care facilities. I watched medical teams care for my loved ones and realized that I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to help care for patients as well as support their families.
When I started at Herzing University, I was still frustrated after spending two semesters petitioning the nursing program at another school. Herzing helped me to turn that discouragement around and put me on track to graduate with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Herzing taught me many hands-on skills necessary for the nursing profession as well as the theory behind nursing practices. The small class sizes were really important to me, especially since I was coming from a large public university. My professors, namely Lynn Mellenthien, Paula Winters, Michelle Metzger and Dr. Tina Orr, were extremely influential in my education and always there for me at any time of day.
I passed the NCLEX within two weeks of graduating and happily accepted a GN/RN offer at Froedtert Health during my last semester of school. I’m extremely grateful to Herzing for helping me achieve my goals. I look forward to applying my nursing knowledge in my new role and helping patients in our community get well and stay well!
