Before enrolling at Herzing, I obtained a degree in speech and audiology. Although I liked working in that field, I felt a strong desire for a hospital environment rather than the school setting where I was currently employed. That desire led me to work in a well-known children’s hospital for six years. It was there I discovered my passion for working with the kiddos in the CICU.
While employed at the hospital, I learned about Herzing through their partnership with my employer. They offered benefits for attending their Accelerated RN to BSN program, and I was thrilled to discover this opportunity and decided to attend.
Throughout my studies, I faced challenges, but Herzing always supported me and kept me on track so that I could earn my BSN on time. Even during my NSG426 Practicum Clinical, I had support from Herzing – my preceptor was a Herzing graduate! She taught me essential nursing skills that I'm confident will be valuable throughout my entire career.
Finding a good balance between school and work was a challenge, but I had so much support along the way. My family, friends, and of course, Herzing, were always there to help me! Never underestimate how much a good support system can help you stay successful.
I've graduated and landed a role as a Pediatric CICU RN at the hospital I've been with for six years. It's exciting to stick with a job I love and move forward in my career within the same organization!
