I had started my degree, but had a child and unfortunately had to withdraw before I could complete it. Herzing gave me a chance to return to school and finish my degree. Though I thought I would never return, Herzing reminded me that it was never too late to receive an education. The career development coach, Chris Spangler, was especially helpful in encouraging me to complete my degree.
With the online program, I had a flexible schedule and more time to complete my work. Being a stay at home mom, the children require a lot from me. If not for the online program, I don't know if I would have finished. Learning to balance school with my home life was challenging, but my family was also my biggest supporters. Whenever I felt like giving up because I felt I couldn't handle the pressure, my family would remind me that I was winning my race and encouraged me to keep going.
All my classes were used as a stepping stone to further my learning and knowledge in nursing and healthcare. I had a lot of great classes as a student, but Cultural Diversity was a great course. This course helped me learn so much about the different cultures and ethnic groups that we may meet as healthcare professionals. We see people of all backgrounds and we must respect their wishes, even if they differ from ours. That’s a great life lesson everyone in this field should learn.
After graduation, I plan to return to Herzing to get my ASN. It has always been a dream of mine to become a Nurse Practitioner and now I know I am on my way!
