I decided that I no longer wanted to work in fast food. I have been there for the last six years, and I just wanted to do something better for myself and my children. I did some research and decided that medical billing was something that I was capable of learning. I also noticed there was a growing need for coders and that it would be a steady job. I really liked that Herzing offered a fast-online degree. It was much easier for me to do the online coursework considering I already worked full-time and I am a mother to three. The program made it possible for me to chase my dreams.
The biggest challenge for me was trying to crunch everything in on the weekends since that's when I had the most free time. I overcame it by slowly doing more and more throughout the week and reaching out to my teachers for extra help. My tutor was also a huge help when learning to code. I really liked that I had a week for each unit to complete all of my work. It gave me plenty of time to complete everything at my pace, and I did not feel rushed. Everyone one of the coding classes helped me to prepare for my career.
I have had someone reach out to me for some part-time coding work at home, and she had said that it could lead to a full-time position. My advice for students is never to give up! Even when it seems so hard and you just want to give up, do not. I was so worried about doing a great job, but I am already done with the program, and I can not believe how quickly it went by!
