One of my old co-workers attended Herzing for their FNP, and this inspired me to look into Herzing myself.
I had been contemplating between FNP and PMHNP for some time, but I ultimately chose to pursue my PMHNP because mental health awareness is crucial now more than ever. I aim to help combat the stigma surrounding mental health and raise awareness globally. People need to understand that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes, and seeking help during those times is essential.
I’m so glad I decided to pursue my dream here! The staff and instructors were readily available whenever I needed assistance or had questions, which was greatly appreciated since I had a huge challenge arise during my studies.
That challenge would be when Hurricane Ida damaged my home in August 2021. Dealing with four feet of floodwaters and extensive flood and wind damage, including a deer in my home, was devastating. I took a break for one 8-week term to gather myself and address the situation with my house.
Losing my home to Hurricane Ida was unexpected, especially during graduate school, but it happened. I spent nearly a year living in a hotel while rebuilding my house, which was challenging. Despite the difficulties, I managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout my entire PMHNP program.
Chasing my dream helped me find success in an incredibly hard time of my life, and my experience at Herzing went so well that I plan to enroll in the Post Master's program for FNP next.
To all future students: hold your head high and study hard. Create a plan, establish a schedule, and strive to adhere to it. Stay ahead on assignments whenever possible and avoid procrastination. Begin networking early for potential preceptors and always have a backup plan.
For those who doubt you along the way, prove them wrong! Lean on your faith during challenging times and remember your “why.” Keep in mind that there is always light at the end of the tunnel, and with faith, all things are possible.
