At my work, I had an opportunity to learn more about Medical Assisting. We were understaffed and needed someone to help, so I decided to assist whenever possible. This made me realize that I had a natural curiosity and interest in the field, sparking a passion that brought me to Herzing to learn.
Having graduated almost 30 years ago with my Bachelor of Science from another university, I was completely unfamiliar with how to navigate online learning. Thankfully, Herzing mapped everything out for me and kept track of which classes I needed to attend, which was a priceless benefit. I was also met with plenty of help from great people who were willing to assist me!
I’d like to give a shout-out in particular to Kim Neuwirth, who was beyond amazing and provided so much of the support that I needed to succeed!
It’s difficult to pinpoint what helped me the most during my education, as there were simply so many things that helped prepare me for my career. If I had to choose one thing that stood out, it was that my professors required us to not only learn the material but also apply it. Having so much of my education be current and easily translatable into real-world experiences was such a pleasant surprise!
Since graduating, I’ve been able to move up in the company I currently work at. This has been incredibly helpful in my personal life as well, as I now have a regular work schedule and I get holidays off. I value work-life balance, so I am overjoyed to have made it here!
My advice for students is to ask for help when they need it. Don’t fake your way through the discussion boards, as you’ll only hurt yourself by doing so. Lastly, don't give up – your life goals are always worth the hard work!
