I was looking for a school that had an online program that was flexible for my schedule, and that’s what brought me to Herzing. I have always loved working with people and wanted to work in healthcare, as I felt that it would be a rewarding experience. Ultimately, this led me toward choosing the Medical Assisting program, as it is a shorter program to complete that lined up with what I enjoyed.
If I had to share one positive, I would say that all the instructors I had were very helpful. Whenever I had a question or needed to message them about anything, they were always so willing to assist and be there for me!
The biggest challenge I had was probably writing discussion posts in class. At first, I simply didn’t enjoy them, but a month into the program, I began enjoying and understanding their value. Eventually, I understood how to write them better and looked forward to participating in my class discussions!
Speaking of my classes, I loved the way they were grouped and never felt like I was overloaded with assignments. In particular, I would say that my clinicals and meeting with my proctor were the most valuable experiences when it came to preparing for my career. I used what I learned in clinicals and my practicums during my externship, which definitely helped a lot!
I was offered a position at my externship site but had to decline for the time being. For now, I will continue to work at my current job and eventually apply back at my externship site.
Overall, I was very surprised at all the different areas that a Medical Assistant can work in! It is such a rewarding career path to choose. Take the time to study and make sure that you keep an open mind throughout your schooling. I am so glad I chose Herzing as my school for my Medical Assisting degree!
