I chose Herzing because I wanted to attend a school that not only was accredited but also had a reputable healthcare program. I was already working as a Medical Assistant and wanted the education to match my experience and allow me to become more marketable for employment.
I already had so much personal experience, so I was surprised with how much knowledge I gained during the courses I took! It was also great that Herzing accepted my transfer credits, which allowed me to complete my studies in a reasonable amount of time.
Unfortunately, I faced quite a few challenges throughout my journey. These challenges began with health issues between my son and I. Then I lost my job, so my focus eventually narrowed to simply making ends meet. This left me working three part-time jobs just to supplement lost income and keep up with my studies.
Despite all of this, I was determined to not give up because I knew that my sacrifice would be worth it in the end. I had begun to take up volunteer opportunities within the community to help take my mind off my problems, which helped me to keep my mind in a positive place. It was a wonderful way to stay strong, and I’d recommend it to others.
Ayana Emory & Neil Phillips were the main reasons why I continued to push forward at Herzing. They made me feel motivated and inspired me to continue my program, especially when I faced personal challenges. They made my online education feel as if I was still connected with my peers, staff and even the community.
I plan to move to Jacksonville, Florida, and pursue a position at the Mayo Clinic. My advice for other students would be simply to study, study, study! You’ve got this.
