A new educational pathway to become a leader in public health with Herzing University and the Medical College of Wisconsin
We are proud to partner with the Medical College of Wisconsin to offer an exciting new online pathway for health sciences and public health students.
The 4+1 dual enrollment program, open to both current and prospective students in Health Sciences, allows students to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Herzing University and a Master of Public Health from the Medical College of Wisconsin—incorporating a dual enrollment year to save both time and cost.
This program represents a unique opportunity for students to receive instruction from two reputable higher educational institutions with long histories preparing healthcare professionals for career success. You have the potential to shape the future of public health, and our schools exist to help you reach it.
How the program works
The program follows a 4+1 format:
Years 1-3
Work towards a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with Herzing University, completing the majority of undergraduate education required over the course of the program.
Year 4
Dual enroll with Herzing and the Medical College of Wisconsin, completing courses which count towards both the undergraduate and graduate degrees—and complete the BS in Health Sciences.
Year 5
Continue graduate coursework in Public Health with MCW for approximately one year, and graduate with a Master of Public Health.
Herzing BSHS students must, within three years of the date of initial enrollment at Herzing University unless otherwise agreed to by the parties in writing due to extenuating circumstances, meet the following requirements to be guaranteed admission to the MCW School of Graduate Studies and to the Program:
- Complete prerequisite courses in the areas of biology, statistics, and writing and achieve a grade of C or higher for each completed course. Specific course recommendations will be provided by Herzing;
- Earn a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in all courses taken at Herzing;
- Enroll full-time (12 or more Herzing credits) each semester at Herzing;
- By April 1 of the student's junior year of study at Herzing: submit an application, an official transcript, three (3) letters of reference, a personal statement, and an acknowledgment in writing of the ability to meet the MCW School of Graduate Studies Technical Standards for Admission, Promotion and Graduation;
- Meet all MCW School of Graduate Studies minimum admission requirements; and
- Participate in a pre-matriculation interview with an MCW Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences representative during the student's junior year to discuss provisional admission requirements to the Program, establish that the student maintains continued interest in the Program, and ensure that all appropriate coursework necessary for direct admission to the MCW School of Graduate Studies will be completed by the published deadline.
Students in the Program must successfully complete three years of undergraduate curriculum and 90 or more credits at Herzing followed by two years of Master of Public Health curriculum at MCW, with the first year of study in the MPH program transferring back to Herzing to complete the student's relevant Herzing Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree requirements.
Herzing will grant a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree to Herzing students who successfully meet the degree requirements specified in the Herzing Catalog, including but not limited to credits earned at MCW, for a total of at least 120 credits.
The MCW School of Graduate Studies agrees to grant a Master of Public Health degree to those Herzing students who complete the MPH degree requirements as specified in the MCW Graduate School Academic Bulletin and MCW progression policy.
