Herzing University Goes Global: Atlanta Campus Students Study Abroad in China
Two Herzing University students are spending a semester abroad in China. Dalyn Small and Sabrina Artemus, both technology students at Herzing University-Atlanta, had never traveled overseas until they left for Hong Kong in September 2018. They are currently studying Chinese language and culture at Zhuhai College of Jilin University, one of the top-ranked universities in China, and will return to the States at the end of the fall semester.
Herzing has hosted many Chinese foreign exchange students from Zhuhai College in recent years, and it is because of this longstanding partnership that Herzing has been able to launch its own pilot foreign exchange program.
For Dalyn and Sabrina, the trip to China is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience that will surely be among the most memorable moments of their college career.
Recently, the International Exchange and Cooperation Office at Zhuhai College held a DIY mooncake making activity for foreign teachers and students. More than 50 foreign teachers and international students from the United States, Ireland, Japan, and South Korea participated in the event.
Students learned about the tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival, a Chinese celebration that takes place at the end of the autumn harvest, and the origin of Chinese mooncakes. Students then learned how to make the mooncakes from scratch.
“The event provided us with a good opportunity to get out of the classroom and understand Chinese culture,” said Dalyn.
In addition to their Chinese courses, Dalyn and Sabrina are enrolled in online technology courses at Herzing, so that they can stay on track to graduate with the rest of their class.
Both students are Boys and Girls Club scholarship recipients, and their scholarship money covers almost all of their expenses while abroad, including tuition, room and board and books.
Stay tuned for more updates on Dalyn and Sabrina’s adventures abroad!
