Wisconsin Joining Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
A new law going into effect January 19, 2018, will allow Wisconsin nurses to practice in many other states. Under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC), nurses are able to provide care to patients in other eNLC states, including Iowa, without having to obtain additional licenses. Herzing University System Dean of Nursing Dr. Mary Judith Yoho, PHD, RN, CNE, issued this statement about the new legislation:
“Nurses not only provide patient care physically, but also telephonically and remotely. For Wisconsin to participate in the National Council State Board of Nursing Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) enactment is a dynamic victory for both Wisconsin practicing nurses and nursing students. Upon graduation, nursing program graduates will now have the opportunity to apply for a multistate license through the Wisconsin Board of Nursing. Nurses with a multistate license will be able to expand their practice in any of the 26 participating states, providing patients increased access to an even greater pool of nursing professionals.”
