Inside Herzing: 5 Steps for Navigating Your Admissions Journey

College admissions advisors are there to help guide you through the enrollment process, and they can be helpful during the early stages of your college search as well.

If you’re undecided about a school, or looking for more information on a particular program, meeting with an admissions advisor is a great way to learn more. You’ll get a feel for the campus, learn more about your options, and find the right program for you. Even if you’re not planning to attend on-campus classes, a virtual meeting with an advisor can help narrow down your interests and answer any questions you have about online programs.

College admissions advisors are there to help guide you through the enrollment process, and they can be helpful during the early stages of your college search as well.

Herzing’s personal approach to admissions has proven to be a benefit to many students. The university’s admissions advisors are knowledgeable and can answer your questions about selecting the best fit to support your academic and career goals.

1. Find YOUR Herzing Path

Meet with your admissions advisor to share your goals and learn about available program options. You can learn about Herzing resources such as student services, academic support, and career development and what you need to accomplish next.

Meeting with admissions is an ideal opportunity to gather all the information you need to know about your program of interest, including start dates, credit hour requirements, online courses, and more. If you’re torn between multiple programs, such as an or a bachelor’s degree in nursing, admissions can explain what to expect from each program and help you choose the one that best fits your needs and schedule.

Whether you tour a campus virtually or in person, interacting with staff, faculty, and students will help you see the full picture of what awaits you.  Ask yourself, “Can I see myself being successful here at Herzing?” If your environment is fully online, be sure to learn what that looks like—learn about the online classroom, the learning systems, and the support structure that will be at your fingertips.

2. Apply to Herzing

Before selecting the right school and program, you will have to weigh your options carefully. You may want to meet  your admissions advisor again to ask more questions, but ultimately you have to answer an important question, “Should I enroll at Herzing?”

If you decide to go to Herzing, be sure to complete the required paperwork to make it official. You will need to complete an online application form and send over your previous transcripts. Your admissions advisor can talk you through what else you need to submit to ensure a smooth enrollment at Herzing.

And don’t feel like you are on an island during the application process. Rather than completing it in one sitting, contact one of Herzing’s many support advisors to get help. We even have an applicant portal with an enrollment checklist that will help keep you on track toward successfully starting school.

3. Get Your Placement

After you submit your application form, you will need to complete any entrance or placement exams required for full acceptance into your program. You may have already taken a college placement or entrance exam like the SAT or ACT before applying, though there could be additional required exams depending on your program of interest. For many healthcare and nursing degree programs, the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), is an important requirement.

Upon acceptance, you will be registered and scheduled for your courses.

4. Build Your Financial Aid Plan

At Herzing, you don’t just have an admissions advisor, you will also be assigned a financial aid advisor!

Your financial aid advisor will explore all funding options and work with you to create a comprehensive funding plan. Their goal is to help you make college as affordable as possible and to help identify financial aid opportunities. Your financial aid advisor will talk to you about loans, scholarships, grants, and other benefit options you may qualify for.

5. Class Begins at Herzing

Believe it or not, you are finished — congratulations! Keep up to date with your brand-new Herzing email for campus updates and communication before you start classes. Don’t forget to celebrate this accomplishment with your family and friends. You are now a member of a larger family at Herzing University; the entire Herzing team is behind you every step of the way!

This life-changing decision will lead to many other opportunities and many more decisions, like how to further your educational journey and how to begin or continue your career advancement. But it begins with that first step, and we encourage you to begin today and start experiencing the difference a degree can make!
