Available Military Student Services

Military students have different needs than our civilian students. You might need to schedule courses around active duty or have transfer credit from military training. At Herzing, you’ll have the support of both a student advisor and career development specialist who have experience working with military students and meeting their needs.

Admissions

We do not require a minimum high-school GPA or SAT/ACT score for acceptance to Herzing. Instead, we concentrate on who you are now and how motivated you are about earning your degree.

Student Advising

Herzing has a large student population comprised of veterans, reservists, and active duty servicemembers. As a new student, you will be appointed a student advisor who will remain with you from day one through graduation.

Career Development

Whether you are working toward advancing your rank or are looking for a civilian career, Herzing’s quality, career-focused programs and outstanding student support services will help you get there.

As a Herzing graduate, you will enjoy free access to our career development services for life. Our experienced staff are available to assist should you need to find a new position, move to an unfamiliar area, or are in the market for a civilian position once your time in the service is fulfilled.

Special Accommodations

Should you require any special accommodations due to disability or injury, please let your admissions advisor know prior to submitting your admissions application. Our accommodations specialist will then confidentially work with you regarding your needs. This early attention will help ensure everything is in place prior to your first day of class.

Herzing dental hygiene and dental assisting students are basically BFF’s with Jared Allen and the Minnesota Vikings… OK, maybe not BFF’s, but most students who attended TeamSmile’s recent event had the chance to meet and snap a quick photo with Jared Allen and other Vikings players. However, bumping elbows with Minnesota athletic fame was not what made the day great.

TeamSmile is an organization that partners with professional athletic teams nationwide to bring much-needed dental care to underserved kids in the surrounding communities. By relying on skilled volunteers, utilizing athletic team facilities, and the occasional sports celebrity, TeamSmile is able to provide kids with a range of dental services in an exciting environment.

Throughout TeamSmile’s event at the Vikings practice field last Tuesday, over 300 kids were able to receive dental care! Due to the number of kids being seen at the event, Herzing dental hygiene and dental assisting volunteers had to jump in wherever they were needed. For some hygiene students, that meant doing the work of an assistant, while dental assisting students took on a more extreme form of assisting. Due to the electrical setup of the practice field, the dental chairs were set up in the end-zone, while the majority of the supplies remained on the 50 yard line. This meant Herzing dental assisting students would literally run back and forth, from the 50 yard line to the end-zone, with trays full of supplies!

Whether it was Jared Allen comforting a nervous boy getting his teeth cleaned, Herzing hygiene students doing whatever was asked of them, or dental assisting students doing the 50-yard supply dash, it was a great event for both the kids and volunteers.

Favorable Tuition and Fees

In the U.S., in-state tuition is the best available tuition rate. This is the tuition that a U.S. citizen residing in a given state pays to attend universities located in that state.

Herzing University’s tuition is very competitive, and it compares favorably to U.S. in-state tuition rates. This often makes Herzing University’s competitive tuition rate even more affordable than schools offering scholarships.

Jessica Olle

I was a full-time online student earning my Bachelor’s Degree. I was pleased with the work that I was doing and the performance of the work that I was turning in. The online courses were formed to my lifestyle and made school easy to attend.

There was a point in my studies that I needed additional assistance, and I had to make an appointment to visit the Academic Success Center. While receiving the additional help, I also inquired about my schedule. This question led me to my academic advisor. When I was introduced to my advisor, she asked if I was willing to take one of my upcoming classes on campus that she was teaching. I accepted her offer.

Being on ground gave me a great insight on all of the additional benefits that the campus had to offer. I learned of Phi Beta Lambda (the collegiate level of Future Business Leaders of America) from my advisor. I was intrigued with what the Business group had to offer me, and what I could give back to PBL in return.

My first meeting was amazing! I signed up to be a member on my first day. I attended every meeting that was held and volunteered as much time as I could. My efforts and support in the Business club paid off. I was offered an officer position just a few months in. I accepted this as an opportunity to help myself grow along with the others that I helped lead. I had a way to give back to my fellow students.

I have grown dramatically in my leadership skills. I took steps to prepare for state competitions and am currently preparing for National Competitions. Phi Beta Lambda has helped me strengthen my leadership goals by allowing me to be a leader, make mistakes, and grow in my confidence and abilities.

Provide your official high school transcript, GED, or HSED. If you don’t have a copy, please fill out a High School Transcript Request Form to have Herzing request the transcript on your behalf. Upon acceptance to your program, you will be automatically registered into the appropriate classes needed for your program of study.

Step 3 of 4: Complete Your Enrollment

AKRON, OH, (May 20, 2013) – Herzing University – Akron has just earned accreditation for its Dental Assisting programs from the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation, an important credential for graduates to earn the credentials needed for their careers.

Dental assisting is one of the fastest-growing careers with an increase of 31 percent more jobs expected from 2010 - 2020, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Dental assistants play an important and growing role in today’s busy dental offices, working alongside dentists. The dental assistant’s work includes operating dental equipment, sterilizing instruments, taking and processing x-rays, applying cavity-preventing dental sealants to teeth, performing laboratory functions, coordinating treatment plans and providing patient education.  They also frequently schedule and confirm appointments, maintain treatment records, handle patient payments and order supplies, which are important administrative functions in the dental office.

“Our dental assisting students are exceptionally well prepared to succeed in their careers, and we are thrilled to have achieved the accreditation necessary for them to sit for their Certified Dental Assisting exam when they complete their studies,” said David L. LaRue, Campus President, Herzing University – Akron. “As the healthcare industry continues to move toward having dental assistants play an even greater role in providing patient care, we are proud to provide high quality education and training for tomorrow’s dental assisting professionals.”

Herzing University – Akron’s programs in Dental Assisting are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. The Commission on Dental Accreditation can be contacted at (312) 440-4653 or at 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611. The Commission’s web address is http://www.ada.org/100.aspx. Upon completion of the Dental Assisting program at Herzing University – Akron, including radiology instruction and application for the Ohio State Dental Board (OSDB) radiology certification, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Dental Assisting (CDA) exam offered by the Dental Assisting National Board (http://www.danb.org/).
