A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse with specialized advanced education and clinical competencies. NPs often work in ambulatory, acute care or long term care settings providing primary and/or specialty nursing and medical care to individuals, families, and communities. Nurse practitioners use scientific principles and national standards of care as a framework for providing patient care while working independently and collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage health concerns. Herzing University is offering the Family Nurse Practitioner program to meet the national need for healthcare providers. Graduates will be eligible to take a national certification examination and seek recognition from the Board of Nursing in their state to work as an advanced practice nurse.
