Unique, Newly-Renovated I.T. Degree Program at Herzing University Delivers Graduates Who Are a Custom Fit for Local Employers
NEW ORLEANS (August 20, 2014) – Herzing University – New Orleans has been quietly renovating its IT lab facilities and enhancing its technology degree programs to ensure its graduates begin their careers with both their degree and some of the most important technical certifications from CISCO, Microsoft and CompTIA. Starting in September, students also will enjoy a brand new networking lab with all of the latest equipment for the hands-on experience they need to succeed in the IT industry.
“No other local university offers the value that we now provide in our IT program by enabling students to earn their high-level technology certifications while they earn their degree, and by including their exam fees in their tuition,” said Jason Morgan, campus president of Herzing University – New Orleans. “Our famous 3-year bachelor’s degree means students will graduate sooner and begin earning a living more quickly because they will not only have the degree, but they will also have all of the certifications, skills and real-world experience that local employers have requested from us.”
The new state-of-the-industry networking lab includes a “routers and switches station” for each pair of students, providing them with much greater access to equipment than in other local IT programs. The curriculum includes a balance of hands-on work on equipment in labs and online simulation learning. In addition, students will tackle problem-solving scenarios that mimic real-world situations to ensure relevant learning that meets the skill demands of today’s job market.
For students coming into the program, Herzing offers the opportunity to test out of courses at no cost for those who already have passed industry certification exams. Credits from prior university work can also be transferred to put students further ahead on their journey to a degree. Degree programs include:
- 2-year Associate Degree: Earn your CISCO CCNA, Microsoft MCSA, and CompTIA A+, Net+ and Security+
- 3-year Bachelor’s Degree: All of the certifications of the associate degree plus Microsoft MCSE and Project Management Institute’s Certified Associate Project Manager (CAPM) certifications. Optional concentration in network management or security technology.
Local employers also tout the value of the degree-certification combination. Michael Mickey, Director of Information Technology at Lafayette General Health, stated, “An education coupled with certification really prepares the individual for the workforce. The degree provides a very valuable knowledge base, and the certifications show that the individual illustrates their passion for the technology within those specific domains. Earning both is ideal for the education process for IT individuals and enhances the abilities of workers for the employers of the local community.”
For a limited time, Herzing University – New Orleans is waiving the enrollment fee for new students enrolling in its Bachelor’s and Associate Degree programs in IT for the semester beginning September 2.
