Semester in China Offers Enrichment Beyond Language Skills
MILWAUKEE (March 20, 2013) – Many students recognize the tremendous value of learning the Chinese language if they aspire to a career in international business, and there is no better way to learn a language than to be immersed in the culture by living in China for a semester. Herzing University offers its students the opportunity to live and study in Dalian, China, for one semester at the Dalian Institute of Science and Technology where they will study Beginning and Intermediate Chinese, as well as complete a course on English/Chinese Language and Cultural Exchange. As part of the language immersion program, students will also teach conversational English to Chinese students for up to 15 hours per week.
“Our students in the Study Abroad program gain a wealth of knowledge about both the Chinese language and its culture, which will benefit them tremendously in their future careers,” said Renée Herzing, president of Herzing University. “In addition, students have told us that they gain personal enrichment from the experience of living abroad for four months and they love teaching English to Chinese students.”
The Study Abroad in China program is limited to 10 students per semester and requires grades of B or above in at least two college-level English or communications courses at Herzing University or another accredited institution. A recommendation by an English professor or instructor is also required and students must be enrolled in Herzing University at one of its 11 campuses or Herzing University Online.
Herzing University students enrolled in its MBA programs or its Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a concentration in International Business are particularly good candidates for the Study Abroad in China program, as their employers increasingly seek candidates with foreign language skills and cultural awareness. However, students in many other business disciplines, such as engineering, IT and accounting, also benefit from the combination of their professional degree, work experience and Chinese language and culture skills. Studies show that students with an internationalized education also achieve better grades than their counterparts who study only in the United States.
Herzing University has operated the Study Abroad program since 2006, in partnership with the Dalian Institute of Science and Technology.
