Black History Month Celebration Feb. 20

Black History Month will be observed at Herzing University-Toledo Thurs., Feb 20 with a soul food cookoff and historically-themed play, among other activities.

Herzing University–Toledo will celebrate Black History Month with a special observance on Thursday, February 20.

Dust off your grandma's recipes or find a new fav online and get ready for our kick-off event, the annual Soul Food Cookoff at 4 pm. A panel of celebrity judges will decide which student or staff member has the most mouth-watering, soul-stirring dish.

Once the King or Queen of Soul Food Cookin' is crowned, watch as history comes to life through a series of historical presentations. To start your journey through the past, the play Bourbon at the Border will begin at 5pm. You'll follow the lives of two ordinary people who joined hundreds of other Americans for a massive voter registration drive in Mississippi in the summer of 1964.

A mini-community services fair also will take place in the library, and yoga demonstrations also will be offered to those interested.

This is a free public event, so bring your friends, family, and neighbors as we celebrate Black History Month together!
