Herzing University Gives Students What They Want Online
MILWAUKEE (June 5, 2013) – The new Herzing University website, www.herzing.edu, is all about the student perspective. “Interactive, easy to navigate and visually appealing,” are just some of the words students have used to describe the new Herzing University website, which has been optimized for on-the-go mobile viewing in order to appeal more directly to the way that current and prospective students access and use information online today.
“We included more stories of the students and faculty that make up the Herzing family to give future students a sense of the Herzing University experience,” stated Renée Herzing, president of Herzing University. “What makes Herzing unique is that we are a family-owned university and we treat students as our extended family.” Renée Herzing succeeded her father, Henry Herzing, as President of the Herzing Educational System on March 1, 2009, when he became the Chancellor. Henry and Suzanne Herzing founded Herzing University in 1965.
The strategic goal of the site redesign was to communicate more effectively with current and prospective students about the degree program options and the Herzing mission of providing career-focused programs that help people fulfill their educational as well as career aspirations. To reach this goal, Herzing surveyed their students across the country to learn what information they wanted on the site, how they wanted to get that information and then how would they use it. Herzing faculty and staff were also surveyed to gain their insights.
With this knowledge, Herzing’s marketing and IT departments went to work to come up with an attractive and convenient website with easy navigation and sharing abilities. The new website integrates Herzing University’s Online and 11 physical campuses into one site, and has more options and customization for individual campuses, which includes additional interactive and social media capabilities. Other features include more information regarding the university’s Continuing Education program, Enterprise Learning and Corporate Partners, as well as an expanded search function and easier navigation.
The website helps future students understand what to expect from a Herzing University education, based on the experiences shared by current students. One student’s story on the site states, “Herzing University is not just any college; the staff is the best group of knowledgeable, professional, loving, caring and supportive professionals working in a healthy, dynamic college environment.” Another wrote, “I think Herzing has prepared me for my future in the sense that they provided me with hands-on experience that will benefit me in real-world situations.” The students also weighed in on design elements such as colors and images and were given several different concepts to review before the final one was selected, based on their feedback.
Planned future enhancements will include adding course descriptions, videos and content updates to further reflect the results from the student surveys and create a rich experience for Herzing University website users.
Herzing contracted mStoner, a strategic web developing agency that focuses on educational institutions, to help with the build out, and engaged Recurve Creative to provide content development expertise.
